The Making of... Icarus

Pantheon, originally uploaded by nrillustration.

On a recent trip to Rome, I was awed by the beauty and craftsmanship of the Pantheon. The marble inlay (right photo) looks like a flying creature and reminded me of the story of Icarus in Greek mythology. This marble formed the theme for NokHoo's Icarus bag.

The screen print was drawn by manipulating photos from trips to Europe, including the marble (mentioned above) and this key topper. I liked the idea of contrasting the abstract screen with stitched metallic wings. The initial bag sketch here uses a mesh pocket on the front, but this was later revised as we worked on cleaning up the design.

Icarus is complete! The color is a nice dark gray without being black and I like the way the texture of the fabric shows through the screen print. The interior ticking stripe is a great compliment to the rest of the bag. All-in-all a classy but fun place to keep a laptop.

  1. I love this design (and adore that it comes from the Pantheon, which was a building I fell in love with when I got to visit Rome); hoping to save my shekels to buy it eventually.

Question -- it can fit a 15.5 in. laptop screen, correct?

  2. So glad you like it! The Pantheon was by far my favorite place in Rome.

The bag can easily fit most 15.5" laptops. Measurements of the laptop pocket are 10.5"x16"x1.5". There's a good amount of padding so even if your computer is slightly bigger than that (say 1.75" wide) there should be wiggle room. If you order one and it doesn't happen to fit, you can return it with no problem. Thanks for checking out the site!

  3. 1.75" wide lap top is pretty small

  4. I researched laptop sizes when I designed the bags and the average width is 1.5" (most fall between 1.3"-1.7"). We've experimented fitting a variety of laptops in and the only one that didn't fit had a huge extended battery plugged into it. Of course there are plenty of laptops out there so it's always possible that something won't fit but this should cover the majority of computers.

  5. I really like this bag, but my laptop is 16.17" x 10.63" (x 1.26"). The difference with the dimensions of the laptop compartment of this bag is small, so do you think it would fit (thanks to the material elasticity for example) ?

Thanks and please excuse my bad english.

  6. Based on the measurements you gave (16.17"x10.63"x1.26") I think it should fit just fine. The padding in the laptop compartment is very thick so will compress to fit somewhat larger sizes than the actual pocket dimensions indicate (10.5"x16"x1.5"). Your laptop dimensions are only off by a fraction of an inch so I don't think it will be a problem. Thanks for asking and your English is just fine!
