I had a hard time finding sites telling me how mother-of-pearl is done but this article by Acoustic Box is helpful. The process seems to involve a lot of delicate cutting and precise placement. For this reason I will probably never attempt to inlay mother-of-pearl, but I will admire it even more for all the effort it takes.
