Trend forecasting is a big part of the print show and it's interesting how often fashion trends are a reaction to current events-two huge influences this time are environment and the economy.
The reports shown here (from Mudpie) call their predictions "cleanse" and "escapism". "Cleanse" is partially influenced by the idea of purifying your environment/yourself. Although I balk at the popularity of greenwashing everything for the sake of sales, it's definitely a trend.
"Escapism" reacts to current economic woes by imagining an alternative reality. Other trend forecasts showed depression-era fashions and do-it-yourself looks as a response the economy.
Are trend forecasters just making this up and using current events to justify their predictions, or are they actually recording what people are responding to? Probably a little of both. Either way, expect to see some of these ideas at a store near you!
