Welcome to Our Glorious Lifestyle

Shag, originally uploaded by nrillustration.

I think most people have seen the artwork of Shag (aka Josh Agle)-it's catchy, colorful and popular with advertisers. In his bio, he unabashedly describes his work by saying, "the paintings themselves celebrate consumerism and consumption...".

I've always liked his work but wouldn't necessarily describe it as "deep" or "thought-provoking"... until now. I ran across his recent exhibit "Autumn's Come Undone" and was caught by the more cynical view of the culture he previously celebrated. The painting shown here is called "Welcome to Our Glorious Lifestyle".

This welcome diversion adds a new level to his already impressive artwork. Juxtapoz does an interesting interview with him about his new approach here.
