Oiled Scarlet Ibis

oiled bird, originally uploaded by nrillustration.

I've been helping out with the Ripple blog all summer, which is starting to wind up shop for the winter. Ripple encourages artists to offer their lovely artwork for a $10 donation to help the animals affected by the Gulf oil spill. They've raised well over $10,000 so far through the generosity of many, many people.

I just happened across the artwork above, "Oiled Scarlet Ibis" by Lindsey Carr, which wasn't created for Ripple but is such a beautiful example of the theme I had to post it. If you look closely at the horizon, you can see an oil rig with its shadow drawn into the foreground.
