An Ocean

In my last post I talked about the value of painting the same subject over and over. What I had in mind was the idea of studying the same image or idea through a series of paintings (or drawings, or whatever) but then I saw the work of Christopher Brown, a large-scale Painter from California. He often repeats the same image on one canvas, which results in compelling abstract patterns. I love the one pictured here called "An Ocean" with the repeated sailor hats and strong contrast. (Image from "History and Memory: Paintings of Christopher Brown").
