Here is the coolest depiction of rain I've seen. This woodblock by Utagawa Kuniyoshi uses heavy vertical stripes with some indication of background behind that-at first I thought it was writing, but no. I keep zooming in on the picture, trying to see exactly how he did it, but I really can't tell. If I ever make it to Tokyo, I will go see this.

Vertical Downpour
Here is the coolest depiction of rain I've seen.
