Paper Cuts

Béatrice Coron's Artwork, originally uploaded by nrillustration.

On a recent NY subway ride, I spied a piece of artwork by French artist Béatrice Coron. To say she works in cut paper is too limited because her silhouetted artwork has also been cast in metal, fused into glass, sewn into garments and digitized as animations.

In her words, "I play with full and empty shapes, everything must fall in place: one’s place in the world, one’s place in the city, one’s place in his or her body. In my graphic style, windows are used not to see out but in, placing the spectator in an outsider/insider situation."

The piece pictured above is called "Caught in the Web". Check out her website to see the breadth of her work.
