Do-Good Wood

One of my favorite finds here in Portland has been a store called Tropical Salvage-gorgeous hardwood furniture made of reclaimed wood from Indonesia. Our new bookshelf is made from three seamlessly combined species of wood: rosewood, tamarind and jackfruit. If you're crazy about the look of natural wood, this place won't disappoint. Best of all, their salvage practices will reassure you that your indulgent purchase was good for the planet.

Their website does an interesting job of explaining how they find the wood. I happen to know that my rosewood had been buried in a landslide before it was unearthed, made into shelves and delivered to my home.
